Registration for both NYC and TN Camps. (First come first serve)
Please note: The camps offers instruction in violin/fiddle, viola and cello to intermediates and advanced levels (there will not be a beginners program offered).
Registration began January 9th, 2010 at www.markoconnor.com.
Johnson City, TN: ($800 - includes room and board) Arrive: Sunday before camp begins.
Depart: Saturday, (the last event is Friday night)
Check-in runs from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST on Sunday. Please arrive before 9 PM. All classes and concerts are held at the ETSU (East Tennessee State University campus) Monday through Friday. There are no "official" activities planned for Sunday afternoon at the Camp site, socializing and jamming can take place Sunday night. Classes begin after breakfast on Monday morning. The last activity of the camp is the Friday night student/faculty concert. Most people will leave Saturday morning since the Friday night concert will likely run past 10 PM. Participation in the student concerts is optional. Dress is always casual.

Check-in runs from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM EST on Sunday at the YMCA (63rd and Central Park West) New York City. All classes and concerts are held at the Fieldstone School (between 63rd and 64th Central Park West) Monday through Friday. Classes start Monday morning. Concerts are held every evening at 7:00 PM at the Society For Ethical Culture (64th and Central Park West). The last event of the week is the Friday night student/faculty concert. It is usually over by 11:00 PM. Participation by students in any of the concerts is optional. Dress is always casual. Most people choose to leave Saturday morning.
Event Description
Each year at the Mark O'Connor String Camps, a wondrous, magical, musical event takes place.{/span} They are events that creates lasting bonds and friendships, as well as music. For five days in June, violin/fiddle and other string players from all over the world, old and young, novice and experienced gather for the Mark O'Connor String Camp. In July, another 5 days of instruction, concerts and jamming is enjoyed by those who play violin, viola and cello at the Mark O'Connor String Camp in New York City.
Enjoy five full days of violin/fiddle classes, seminars, demonstrations and concerts. Classes are given by Multiple Grammy winner Mark O'Connor and a stellar faculty of guest instructors. While Instructor participation is subject to change due to scheduling and availability, faculty in past years has included Rachel Barton Pine, Darol Anger, Bruce Molsky, Natalie MacMaster, Texas Shorty, Buddy Spicher, Buddy Spicher, DBR and Colin Jacobsen.{/span}
Sessions are designed to accommodate players from the ages of 10 and up and of with a wide range of achievement levels. From intermediates (young and old) to professional musicians from orchestras, bands and chamber ensembles, the programs offer activities and instruction appropriate for a wide range of players. Instruction includes in-depth explorations of fiddle styles, including Jazz, Bluegrass, Classical, American Classical, Celtic{/span} and others. The New York City Camp in addition offers instruction for viola and cello.

listings for time.) The CBS crew spent almost the entire week at Montgomery
Bell State Park filming virtually every aspect of Mark's camp in the
Tennessee hills. If you've ever wondered what fiddle camp is like, you will
be able to take a look on this weekend's show.
In most markets, "CBS Sunday Morning" comes on fairly early in the (8:00
a.m. Central), but some stations hold for later broadcast. Be sure to check
your local listings for local broadcast time. Breaking news may alter the
show's plans, but as it now stands, the piece is scheduled to run.

Each year at my String Camp, students who demonstrate great potential and/or exceptional talent are awarded the Daniel Pearl memorial violins built by luthier Jon Cooper. I believe this is a wonderful and fitting way to honor the late Mr. Pearl, an acclaimed journalist and amateur violinist. As these students practice and perform with the Pearl violins for a year - until the following Camp, when new students receive the instruments - they may come to appreciate the thirst for knowledge and message of healing that defined Pearl's life and career.{/span} Mark O'Connor 8/28/08
