"Appalachian Journey" winning the Grammy for Best Classical Crossover
November 17, 2007
Mark O'Connor makes the acceptance speech yesterday for his album "Appalachian Journey" winning the Grammy for Best Classical Crossover Album! At the podium in the pre telecast portion of the awards show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and before his fellow nominees in attendance including Chick Corea, Dave Grusin and Lee Riteneaur, Mark thanks his co-hosts Yo-Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer as well as guest artists Allison Krause and James Taylor. He also thanked Sony Classical for "getting our music out there - and their recording budget!" Mark mentioned his long time publicist Ellen Pryor and his "lovely wife Carla for helping to inspire my compositions for the album". Mark appeared on CNN live immediately following the award presentation. One of the biggest Grammies ever and Mark gets no. 2! (the first Grammy was for New Nashville Cats in 1992). Way to go Mark and congratulations!
